5 Ways to Celebrate Autumn (the BEST season of the year!)

It’s autumn! FINALLY. Summer is my least favorite part of the year (yes, you heard that correctly!) and I’m SO happy to bid adieu to the scorching temperatures and beach vacations (good riddance!) and move onto pumpkin lattes and cool breezes. I absolutely LOVE fall for many reasons — crisp temperatures, gorgeous shades of red, yellow, and orange everywhere, pumpkin goodness abound, spiced apple cider, and the list goes on. Given today is Fall Equinox, it’s the perfect day to bring you 5 ways to celebrate autumn. Ah, the glory of FALL

If you have any other ideas or suggestions, I’d love to hear them in the comment section below!

1. Cheers to seasonal coffee and tea drinks…

While the pumpkin and egg nog lattes may be the only acceptable reason to go to Starbucks, branch out a little this autumn and head to your nearest local coffee shop to sample some of fall’s best concoctions — chances are you’ll find an even better array of fall drinks and flavors. To do complete justice to the flavors of fall, sample everything apple, pumpkin, egg nog, and salted caramel in sight. But of course, don’t forget fall’s favorite boozy drinks such as bourbon chais or hot toddies.

2. Bake, bake, bake…

Baking is really always en vogue, but especially in autumn. Mother Nature makes it so easy for you to bake by providing some of the most delicious seasonal ingredients such as pumpkins, nuts, and apples. Support local farms and businesses by visiting the nearest apple orchards and pumpkin patches, but just do yourself a favor and don’t come back empty-handed. Some of my favorite things to bake during fall are pumpkin scones, carrot cake walnut cupcakes, apple cobbler, and honey zucchini bread.

3. Party it up…

Everyone loves a good reason (do we really need a reason?) to have some fun, and what better reason than the gorgeous coming of fall? Host a fall-themed or Gatsby dinner party with friends or check to see if your town is hosting any exciting festivals this time of year.

4. Find your fall foliage fix…

You neither need a reason nor an excuse to travel, but if there ever was the perfect time to travel, it’s during the autumn months! Just about everywhere in the world is spectacular in terms of weather this time of year. Admire the gorgeous fall foliage from your garden or nearest countryside, or travel to destinations that are especially renowned for their autumnal glory (think: the New England region, London, or the Pacific Northwest). Take a brisk walk, hike, or run to appreciate the beauty of Mother Nature, or try more seasonal activities such as strolling through a corn maize with family and friends, going on a hayride, riding horses, feeding animals, shopping for any quaint antiques to decorate your home…the possibilities are almost endless. This goes without saying, but don’t forget to unleash your inner kid and step on every crunchy leaf!

5. Update your wardrobe with a fall flair…

With the changing of seasons also comes the changing of clothes in your favorite stores — swap your flip flops for boots, tank tops for cozy cable-knit sweaters, and thin outerwear for chic wool coats. Don’t forget to add warm stylish accessories (think: scarves, ear muffs, hats, berry-hued lips, etc.) and to inject bright colors into the usual sea of blacks and blues seen everywhere.
